Description: The ratio of stress to strain within the elastic limit of material is an important parameter in measuring the deformation of a strained object. The ratio of direct stress to linear strain is referred to as Young modulus; and that of shear stress to shear strain as elastic modulus in shear or shear (modulus for short). The Young modulus and shear modulus both are widely applied in engineering design and material selection for machinery in industrial fields such as machinery, architecture, traffic, medical treatment and communication etc. This apparatus has following features: 1. Claw under the metal wire (the old instrument adopted a disc) is elaborate and the ring steel can swing in both horizontal and vertical directions around the same axis. It is also suitable for testing other steel test pieces in different shape (such as steel bar). The torsional pendulum is stable and reliable. 2. Equipped with alnico, Hall switch and digital count and hour meter for measuring the vibration period of torsional pendulum, time of every alternation can be checked so as to determine the optimum measurement periodicity. Because all the parameters used for measuring the shear modulus, such as period, moment of inertia, specimen diameter and line length can be accurately measured and calculated, so the experimental result is accurate. EXPERIMENTS: Moment of inertia of the steel test pieces (in different shapes as ring, column form and round bar) moving around the different axis, which is in favor of students to deepen concept understanding of moment of inertia.
